The New Foursquare Badge List App
  • JR1JR1 December 2011
Recently @Gary has developed a new app for us to use for Foursquare tracking purposes: http://fs.mattersofgrey.com/ If you have not checked it out yet you should. If you have any ?'s about the app please feel free to ask them here.

This app is designed to collect badge data and other data made available by foursquare from your foursquare account ONLY IF YOU DECIDE to link your foursquare account to the foursquare badge list application using the "Connect to Foursquare" button. You DO NOT have to connect your 4sqr account to the bagde app if you do not want to. Using this app is OPTIONAL and at YOUR OWN DISCRETION. If you do not want your foursquare information gathered then do not now or in the future link your 4sqr account to this app.
  • DanDan December 2011
Is this badge list an all inclusive list of every badge released by foursquare.
  • Gary December 2011
@Dan It will be soon. Our team of minions are hard at work collecting data on all the badges that have been released. At this time, there are 312 badges listed.
  • jdlc330230jdlc330230 December 2011
@Gary... thanks for the add'l features...the minions of users, thank your minions...:)

By the way, thank to your alert, I got all my Swarm badges this weekend, Now, I need to turn off the alerts OFF and I am not able to. When I click on the "Swarm Alert: On" link, the page refresh with no discernible change. I've tried it for Firefox, Chrome, and IE browsers. Let me know if you need more information. Thanks again.
  • DanDan December 2011
This is just a suggestion: Instead of listing all badges alphabetically, what about listing the badges in sub-categories? IE College badges, Foursquare, Expertise badges, Partner badges, and Retired badges.
  • BeerknurdBeerknurd December 2011
@Gary Is it possible to make the "Badges to Unlock" sentence at the top of the page clickable? Once you click it, it will show you the badges you need?
  • Gary March 11
This is now an active feature.
  • choad17choad17 January 5
Maybe be able to click on the number of badges needed and it display the list of ones you need. Can do same for list of ones you have.
  • iamciamc January 7
Ok, I'm a little confused. At a glance, what shows me the badges that are still available, but I haven't earned (if there are any)?
  • Gary January 7
The far left column in the table, will be blank.
  • DanDan February 20
Gary, How about a "Quick Link" at the far right of this web page under "Categories" ?
  • JerkrattJerkratt February 24
I can't get the swarm alert to load on my phone... I'm using the stock DROID RAZR browser.. and when i use opera mini it wont let me sign in/connect my Foursquare account...
  • Gary February 25
    @Jerkratt Have a look at http://4sqbadge.co/

At this moment, only the Swarms is live. The others will follow.
  • ZalabardZalabard February 25
What does the column "DAYS" mean? days from where/what?
  • ejaymuejaymu March 6
The Porky badge is showing as a badge I'm yet to unlock - but I already have it at level 10. Is it a bug or is it something else? I don't see anyone else reporting the same problem.
  • Gary March 6
Thank you for the report. I have corrected the issue.
  • MorrMorr March 10
Love this app/page. Just something I noticed. When I first used the system, it said I couldn't get the I'm a hookie badge. I was able to do so. Maybe this is should not be classified as a university badge.
One thing I am not sure if it could be done - could you make the expert level a separate column? This way I could sort on that and pick which badge to work on next? Thanks a million for all the hard work!
  • Gary March 11
As you now see, I have corrected that issue.
  • ZalabardZalabard March 10
In the badge list the SXSW Virgin-Sophomore-Three peat and Home run should be mutually exclusive, like college badges: if I got one of them, the three other CANNOT be earned...
  • Gary March 10
That is correct. It will take time to write the code to handle the logic for this.

    EDIT:
@Zalabard Okay, I have fixed that on the test site. Thank you for the report.

http://4sqbadge.com/ Please let me know if you have any other issues.

You have been awarded one Gold Star.
  • BangGowesBangGowes March 10
It shows 2 SXSW Virgin in the list. SXSW Virgin (2011) that I already unlocked & SXSW Virgin (2012) that I haven't unlocked. I think the badge is the same & we can only have one.
  • Gary March 11
@SyarifSArman Message me the details on which account you are seeing this, please.
  • 9xMonths March 10
Great app ...New Badge info list on the right seems to be missing / before the number in the links ... http://mattersofgrey.com/forum/discussion453
  • Gary March 10
I will fix that now. Thanks for the report.
  • Gary March 10
With so much going on, I am going to open the development site for use. It will be open throught the Monday evening for general use, at which time I hope to have the new coded moved over. There are a lot of changes and new features and it is going to give you errors. If you have comments, please share them, good or bad. I have a very small ego.

    http://4sqbadge.com/

If you are connected to Foursquare, you can click on Badges to unlock: and it will hide all badges except those you can unlock.
  • Gary March 10
@SyarifSArman Okay, I have half of that done. I'll work on the other part next week. Thank you for the report.

You have been awarded two Gold Stars.
  • BangGowesBangGowes March 11
    Hahaha...a burger on the way...lol
  • BeerknurdBeerknurd March 10
@Gary The web site you are accessing has experienced an unexpected error.
    Please contact the website administrator.
  • Gary March 10
Thank you for the report. I am working to reduce the load.
  • BeerknurdBeerknurd March 10
You are doing a great job!! A++++++++++!!!
  • iamciamc March 10
@Gary THANKS so much for this app, and all of the work you put into it. Foursquare really has you hopping the last few days!!
  • ZalabardZalabard March 11
Bug? I've got Colorado Rapids badge, but it is listed as "to be unlocked"
  • Gary March 11
@Zalabard It was an ommision in the data. I have corrected the data for that badge. Thank you for the report.
  • ZalabardZalabard March 11
    Ok, it works, tkx
  • ZalabardZalabard March 17
PORKY badge appears TWICE in the list:
    - once as unlocked (level 5)
    - once as "to be unlocked" with a wrong image

...or are they two differrent badges?!?!
  • BrandonBrandon March 17
Two different badges. One is from an SXSW long since past.
  • ZalabardZalabard March 17
And still to be unlocked and UNLOCKABLE????? If it is from a past SXSW (which one? I don't see it in 2011...?) it should be RETIRED, I think.
  • Gary March 17
There are THREE different PORKY badges. I have fixed the problem you saw. Thank you for the report.
  • BangGowesBangGowes March 20
@Gary: FYI: The Badge List says that I have 5 badges to unlock. Actually I have 8 badges to unlock (4 MLS pending badges, 2 Health Month badges, Circus Circus badge & #4sqDay 2012 badge). Perhaps your minions can fix it, thanks!
One more thing, this is just an amateur question. What is different between inactive badges & retired badges (eg. XPERIA badges are in active & WSJ badges are retired). Does it mean that those badges are inactive now have a chance to be reactivated later? Thanks again man!
  • choad17choad17 March 20
@Gary yes I'm experiencing the same thing. It says I need 3 when it should be 6. (4 MLS, Circus Circus, and 4sq Day)

Also, I would like to be able to see the retired badges that I DON'T have. I like to see what I've missed since I really started collecting.
  • Gary March 20
@SyarifSArman @choad17 I have found the problem and fixed the code with the badges count needed being off by three.

@SyarifSArman Retired indicates it has been marked 'Retired' by Foursquare. Inactice indicates the badge has not been unlocked and is the next level from being retired.

@choad17 The showing of non-unlocked retired badges is planned for the near future.
  • BangGowesBangGowes March 21
Thanks Gary, it is fixed & understood...:-)
  • vb_2011 April 9
Where are the Bender Badge and Hangover Badge on the Foursquare Badge List App http://4sq.mattersofgrey.com/ ?

    I miss both!

The Badges are definitely not Retired:

Bender -> Unlocked on Tue Apr 10, 2012 at 12:11 AM

  • Gary April 12
Thank you for the report. This has been fixed.
  • Gary April 12
Badges to unlock now shows only badges that can be unlocked. It does not include pending badges.
  • choad17choad17 April 13
@Gary my badges to unlock currently says -1. Also, can you add a filter that you can turn on or off for the badges that are "Not Available" (the college badges)?
  • Gary April 13
@choad17 Please try this link and see if you still get -1. http://4sqbadge.com/
  • choad17choad17 April 13
@Gary that link says 1 and not -1 but I don't have any.
  • Gary April 13
@choad17 Thank you for reporting this. It was an error in the the data and not the code. Once I corrected it, everything came up correct for you.
  • OperaDudeOperaDude April 14
@Gary Where can I find out what the D.HH column is?
  • Gary April 14
@OperaDude D.HH is Days and Hours since the last badge unlock. I had to format it that way to overcome a sorting problem in the java code.
