General information about 4sqr not pertaning to rules & policies.

    4sqr pages to know about:
    Main 4sqr page is Here
To find brands to follow click Here
  • JR1JR1 July 2011
If you goto the brands to follow page on the top left corner of every brand that has a badge available and some that have had a badge available will have a small picture of a grey partner badge with a start in the center of it. If you put the mouse on the mini badge it will say "badge available". Great way to know what brands you have to follow to unlock all the current badges.
  • CastaliaCastalia July 2011
there are some pages like mazda still list their badge as active
  • JR1JR1 July 2011
There are alot if pages that never change their info.. And a bunch that claim to have badges that dont and prob never will. I wish they would force the brands to keep their pages upto date and not lie about badges.
  • JR1JR1 July 2011
On the top right of the 4sqr main page when you login (near the logout, help, app, setttings tabs) they now have a spot for notifications. This will tell you when you have any notification on 4sqr. According to foursquare the notification tab will help you: "Keep up with the latest! Fresh comments, bonus points, and friend info will all show up here, in the new Notification Tray."

  • JR1JR1 July 2011
Forusquare redid 4sqr mobile today removing the shout option from the list of things you can do (option #3). Now you can only shout on 4sqr mobile with a checkin. For all of you who jump and use the shout trick to not have to consider travel time that will no longer work. From now on when jumping using 4sqr mobile you will need to conside travel time. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up.

New Blackberry 4sqr update released today. Version 3.1 ... Update includes support for BBM6 and incremental updates to the UI and app preformance.
  • TymoraTymora July 2011
    Already?!
  • JR1JR1 July 2011
Yea I was suprised too. It's because of the release of BBM6. Which i dont really get cause i dont see how the 4sqr app will interface with that but we will see.
  • TymoraTymora July 2011
@JR1 where did you find that update? I just went to 4sq's page and its still only offering 3.0.2
  • JR1JR1 July 2011
@tymora BB app world sent me a msg saying the update was available.
  • TymoraTymora July 2011
Heffers didn't notify me but I found in app world

Do you know if you can add one tips to multiple locations at once? i.e. if I want to add a tip to all Target stores in the nation it would be too time consuming to go one by one
  • JR1JR1 August 2011
@DavidYeskett They do not have a way to do that that I have ever heard of or seen. I know all the brands have to go through venue by venue and leave a tip at every venue they want a tip at. Do you mind if i ask what kindov tip you would want to leave at every target store in the country? Do you work for them?

Hmm... Looks like Foursquare forgets Nokia.
This Jimmy Foursquare guy keeps nagging me about my out of date application.
  • JR1JR1 August 2011
  • HarjifangkiHarjifangki August 2011
Nope, that's the same old stuff. They haven't update it since months or maybe a year ago.
  • JR1JR1 August 2011
4sqr released an update today of their entire site. If you have not logged into their main page yet on the computer fyi they have changed the entire layout. I think it will work out better in the long run, but it does take a little getting used to.
  • HarjifangkiHarjifangki August 2011
Yeah, now they have that list thingy. Not so useful though,
  • vecvec August 2011
To tell you the truth, I didn't even notice the change. After reading your post, I had to go back and look again, lol
  • JR1JR1 August 2011
Please note that using anything other then a 3rd party app that reports ur actual location or 4sqr mobile may result in your 4sqr acct being flagged. 4sqr has been cracking down on this alot more lately so if you do use any 3rd party apps that do not report your real location to 4sqr dont be suprised if your acct gets flagged and you get a message from 4sqr.
  • EdgerEdger August 2011
    Mmmmm, goodbye 4sqr...
  • JR1JR1 August 2011
This has been going on now for a while. Some 3rd party apps havent been flagged yet. But they seem to be finding them all. Now any app that reports your actual location is fine and will not get flaged neither will anything you do on 4sqr mobile.
  • choad17choad17 August 2011
I find the best way to not get flagged is having an iPhone and Jailbreaking it and then getting a Location Spoofer. I don't think 4sqr could ever tell if you are using it or not.

    Foursquare rolls out event support:

Today foursquare continued their week of big launches by rolling out event support. Users will now be able to check in to events as they check in to venues on foursquare. The first round includes support for concerts, sporting events and movies.

Using the new events feature, you’ll no longer need to shout the name of the concert or movie when you check in. Foursquare will prompt you to do so automatically when you’re checking in to a venue with events. You’ll have the option to check in to the venue by itself or to any of the movies, concerts or sporting events occurring there within the next few hours. The event you’re attending will be shown to your friends anywhere your checkin shows up.
  • JR1JR1 August 2011
They’ve partnered with three companies to provide the data to begin with:
•ESPN: Sporting events will be powered by ESPN.
•MovieTickets.com: you’ll be able to not only check in to each movie currently playing, but you’ll be able to read more about it and even find tickets directly from the foursquare app.
•SongKick: Concert details will be provided by SongKick.

Overall, the data covers more than 50,000 venues and hundreds of thousands of events. The move adds an incredible amount of extra context to checkins. Your friends will now know exactly which movie you’re checking in to, for instance, giving them more reason to comment or to possibly even join you. You’ll also be able to look through your history — which now includes event names — and see exactly who was playing the night you went to the stadium.

Support is already built in to the iPhone app and will roll out to other platforms soon.
  • JR1JR1 August 2011
In addition to the new context, it opens up the posibility for foursquare to offer more targeted badges, much like the ones you’d typically find from GetGlue. The 30 Minutes or Less badge, for example, could require actually checking in to the movie instead of just visiting a related venue category.

Simply adding event support would have made foursquare even more valuable for users, but by partnering with the content providers they’ve chosen, foursquare has increased the value of the feature exponentially. Learning more about movies or sports events as you’re checking in is just one more step in foursquare’s mission to “make your world easier to use.”

  • JR1JR1 August 2011
Currently 4sqr mobile does not support this new feture. If and when Badges come out about checking into a specific event that badge might them only be available through an actual smartphone checkin at that venue and event. Have to wait and see where they are going to take this but it has the potential to slow down badge hunters from getting alot of badges. Not saying that this is what they are planning on doing just saying that it could be a possibility bease on the new capability they now have.

Foursquare now notifies you of deals at places on your to-do list:

Foursquare’s integration with Groupon, Living Social and other daily deal providers makes it easy to find nearby deals. Foursquare knows a lot more about us, though, than just the places we’ve been, they also know where we want to go. It appears they’ve now married that knowledge with the deals to alert users when somewhere they want to go is offering a discount. A new notification is appearing on foursquare if a deal is added to one of the venues you’ve added to your to-do list.

Dammit. It's getting harder and harder for Jumpers to get badges.

    New 4sqr Lists:

4sqr now lets users create Venue lists of places they think people should visit. Any user can create a venue list. The only rule 4sqr currently has on venue lists is that users can not add more then 200 venues to a list. Brands can add however many venues they want to add.

    @JR1...thank you for recent post...
  • JR1JR1 September 2011
4sqr today chenged the venue links. Now when you goto a venue it no longer has the venue number in the link.

    for example:
this is how a venue link used to look:
    https://foursquare.com/venue/110555

this is how that same venue link looks now:
    https://foursquare.com/v/andy-warhol-museum/4aa1679cf964a5207f4020e3

the mobile venue link now looks like this:
    https://foursquare.com/mobile/venue/4aa1679cf964a5207f4020e3

This does not change much just makes it a bit harder to get the venue to pull up on 4sqr mobile when using regular 4sqr on a pc. Instead of just typing in /mobile into the link after .com you now have to delete the /v/venue-name/ and add in /mobile/venue/ in it's place to get the venue to pull up on 4sqr mobile. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up of the change before you tried to change a venue over to 4sqr mobile and it did not work.
  • JR1JR1 September 2011
4sqr did a fix within the last few days and now all you have to do is type in /mobile after .com (just like before) and it will redirect you to the 4sqr mobile site again. glad they got that issue taken care of so fast.

@Beerknurd. This tip is for everybody but I noticed beerknurd going through some tragedy in the ski bum disscussion because he didn't know about it.
You can still "jump" home using the app on a smart phone. Shout from the app and it will locate you back where the gps on your phone says you are. Then check in. You still have to use mobile and wait travel time to get somewhere you're not but if you're "skiing in indonesia" and want to be home in time to check into that cool event you're attending in real life this will help
  • DanDan September 2011
Based on what Tymora, said about doing a shout out before you check-in from your phone app, Does anybody have an Android phone that can explain to me how to do just a shout out??? On my 4sq app the only place I can see to do a shout out is where I check in to a venue.
  • BeerknurdBeerknurd September 2011
New update for iPhone was released today. It may also be on other platforms as well. There is now a "Lists" tab. The update reads:

Foursquare has a brand new "lists" tab that lets you keep track of your favorite places and the places you want to go. It has your lists, your friends' lists and a ton of suggested lists from the 10,000,000-strong foursquare community. It makes exploring even easier... have fun out there!
  • EdgerEdger September 2011
Foursquare has long relied on a group of dedicated users called superusers to keep their 15+ million venue database free of errors and duplicates. Last week they rolled out a change that makes it easier for any user to help keep the data clean. A “Report a Problem” button now appears on every venue page.

Users now have the ability to report all sorts of errors to be cleaned up by superusers. They include reporting closed venues, duplicate venues, miscategorized venues, mislocated venues, and incorrect names and addresses. They can also report that their home is either miscategorized or should be removed from the site completely, to help comply with the new privacy features we noted yesterday.

Howdy, Stranger!
