Tip expiration dates would be awesome ... provided they are used (correctly) ... would help clean out of alot of the event specific tips that are of no value.
The SXSW Foursquare page. For all major metropolitan cities. How cool would that be...? I'm thinking I want to go downtown tonight. Check out www.foursquare.com/DC (Washington DC for this example) then see where my friends are on a map, venues that are trending/swarming. I know that's not the Foursquare app...but I think it would be useful and awesome.
I would like to be able to choose what venues are my favorite, not have foursquare choose for me and they sometimes show up.
Knowing where swarms are is a good idea also.
How about a trending venue being more than 10, 20 or 30 people. I see a lot of trending venues with 3 or 4 people checked in.
Let mayors edit the venue and then send the edit in for approval to make sure it is not something stupid from someone stupid but a legit change.
How about accepting applications for superusers that can merge. There should be several active superusers in every major metropolitan area and regular users should know who those superusers are, why is it a secret?
Re-categorizing venues that were done wrong when they were created. Example, I became mayor of a tobacco shop, Who ever set this venue up categorized it as BBQ. As mayor i should have the ability to make this change.
I would like to see badge levels. For example, Gym Rat level 3, as you continue to work out you receive more badges, but in the form of levels. I have believed for some time that this would keep people active and inspire certain activities to be continued.
It would be awesome to tag ur friends while @ a venue, instead of checking in through foursquare, then loging into my facebook to tag a friend whos right next to me. And if possible as well to for example: I wanna go to south beach and I wanna see whats a popular spot around that area instead of goin nuts to try to find something. Those would be two great additions to foursquare in my opinion. (:
@socialDino: love tip expiration idea. @GordonWerner: love the tip rating idea; for now, the more people that do the tip may hint at what tips are most relevant/valuable to the community, perhaps? @Chaunce: love the levels idea.
@jamesbrowninmiami: Droid X has integrated twitter/4Sq functionality built in and there are apps to integrate social functionality if your phone does not provide it. Maybe upgrade your 4Sq phone app version first?
In terms of tagging friends, I disagree. Most of my friends, even the most socially mobile/advanced, don't want to be tagged by others w/o asking permission. But people rarely ask, then they have to go back and de-tag themselves. (Like late at a bar when they don't want work colleagues and/or spouse to necessarily know.)
would like to remove stupid check in limit...I do understand distance limit (normal that you cannot check at more than few hundred meters from the venue) that you limit number of check in 15mn, or 30mn, and 1 hour...is normal and ok , i do understand that you do not want spam of checks (1 every minute) but over the day... i commute a lot between different countries (north of europe) and I am frequently stuck by 4SQ limit: with the message like "please have a rest/calm down 5mn...". sometimes this limit is 50 checks a day, and i don't face problem, sometime this limit is 30checks a day and i face concerns... it's a free social network nothing to win (i mean no money to win), why do you limit it then? or at least why do you limit it so low... put 100, this I can understand! that it's a non sence to make 4 checkin / hour, 24hours a day... but like 30: 2.5checks / hours during 12hours a days... it's ok if you don't move the all day, if you stay front of your desk from 8AM to 8PM..
@PeaceBR I have chated with people by commenting on their check ins. They will receive a notification that someone has made a comment so they can respond in kind.
(1) See if you've been to a venue before/how many times from the mobile phone venue page.
(2) See the venue category from the venue page online and on mobile phones.
(3) Vastly improve the website statistics. I'm not sure why I can't see, say, the top 10 categories I've been to from the stats page of the website (I can't even see the top 5 like I can on my phone). Also, have 6-month, 2-month, and 1-month stats on the website (or some different time frames than just 1-week and 1-month).
(4) Could there be a way to file connected places within one venue under a heading? I.e. you'd have Philadelphia International Airport, and then somewhat like a "folder" and the Terminals, and then a "folder" and the shops/concourses (or think of it like branches of a tree with the airport as the trunk). The same could work by filing buildings within a University under those headings, or shops within a mall, or offices/shops/eateries in a building? They'd still all show up on a search, but then on the website, you could click down/up to the sublevels.
